Make More Money from Your Property
A well planned and well maintained landscape can add thousands of dollars to the overall value of your home.
Rochedale Turf Services believe that there are simple steps you can take to ensure you have the best possible gardens on your property.
- Improving the soil – Soil needs to store water for later use by the grass while still allowing the roots to breathe. You need to aerate your lawn and add organic matter. Mixing 50mm of a high quality organic matter into the top 100mm of soil will do more for drought-proofing your lawn than anything else. The organic matter will not only improve the aeration and moisture holding capacity of both clay and sand it also provides valuable material to support a healthy living soil.
- Cutting your turf at the right height – Only 30% of the couch leaf should be removed at any one time. Mowing too short (scalping) stresses the plant.
Do you need more than just tips? Maybe your yard needs an overhaul, a renovation of sorts? If this is the case, you are best to engage the services of professionals such as Rochedale Turf Services. You will find that they can help you with the correct selection of plant species for your area, the correct installation of your turf, and ideas and inspiration to help with your landscape design. Allowing them to provide you with the best minerals for your garden, minimise the maintenance, and maximise your profits when it comes to selling your property.
Level 6 Water
In Australia, about 35-50% of all domestic water is used outdoors.
Gardens play an important role in our outdoor lifestyle in Australia. The challenge for all of us is to maintain the lifestyle and environment that we have, while limiting pressure on our water resources.
With Level 6 water restrictions here, Rochedale Turf recognises that it is time to take action.
The effect on future generations is in our hands. Water restrictions and water saving management programs are fast becoming the norm throughout the world. In Australia, especially in Queensland, it is no different.
So what can you do?
Rochedale Turf recommends the following:
- When designing a new garden, use drought tolerant grasses and plants which provide valuable shade and can survive in our subtropical climate (even during dry periods)
- Care for your lawn by applying compost or organic fertilizers, watering less often but deeply and aerating the lawn for more efficient watering
- Add a commercial strength organic wetting agent such as Stamina G to keep water and nutrients in the soil
- Try to water as late or as early as possible (within restriction times) to reduce evaporation
- When cutting your lawn, raise the lawn mower blade to at least three inches. A lawn cut higher encourages grass roots to grow deeper, shades the root system and holds soil moisture
- Mulch your garden - mulch keeps up to 70% more water in the soil
